JoJo's Bizarre Comparisons

Diamond Is Unbreakable #26 - RPS Kid Is Coming!

Hello everyone, and welcome back for another one of these comparisons! Sorry for skipping last week, but I had some family over and I couldn’t work on this as much as I wanted last weekend. Now then, without further ado, let’s get right to it!

  • Today’s first comparison is of dear ol’ daddy Kira once again, with his pesky pajamas and that weird funky Heihachi hair. The borders of the frame are slightly distorted, as if through a very faint fish-eye lens, the sky and the clouds have been shaded differently and the far edge of the polaroid picture now has some nail holes:

  • This animation of Kira daddy going out of frame as one extra… Well, frame:
  • In this frame, the kids in the background are slightly smaller, daddy Kira has now remembered to wear the lower half of his dentures and OOOOOH CAAAANADAAA! Just kidding, there’s nothing different about that one dude in particular:

  • The background here has been moved, and the usual nail holes have been added on the far side of the polaroid:

  • In this shot they drew in the missing collar and tie on Joseph, and the background is slightly darker, as is the shading on Rohan:

  • In these two shots, the background is WAY more zoomed in, and Rohan actually looks like a human being:

  • Once again David scrapped the very controversial “Rohan is actually an alien who has a very poor grasp on how human anatomy is supposed to work” storyline and replaced the actor with a regular person; Joseph’s face looks slightly better as well:

  • “Buy a pen enlargement today! ~Enlarge your pen from only $69.99~”:

  • This summer… Rohan is Bigger™:

  • David looked at a picture of a soccer ball a couple more times before redrawing this shot (and every subsequent time in which that soccer ball appears again):

  • …Like this one. Joseph also has a couple more leopard spots on his hat:

  • …Or this one:

  • The left side of this shot is darker here:

  • Oh but the redraws don’t start till I walk in! Check this mess out:

  • The soccer ball once more, plus a lighter sky and a different shading on the brown arch thing:

  • Yeah, I know, kid. At least your soccer ball looks decent now:

  • In this shot, Rohan had a darker spot on his lower lips, which has been turned into a highligh in the BDs:

  • IT’S A GHOST BALL!:

  • Now this is what I call a redraw! Check out that new Rohan! That retouched kid, whatever his name is! The slightly shifted background! Mm-mm!:

  • Rohan looks ✧・゚: ✧・゚:* *:・゚✧:・゚✧ .prettier・゜゜・ ・゜゜・. 。・゚゚・ ・゚゚・。 here:

  • In this shot, the kid has no split on his nose, and the texture on the right page flap has been slightly warped:

  • …While here the book texture has been slightly changed:

  • There’s also one less line on the kid’s nose:

  • …And his facial features have been rearranged to look slightly more pleasing:

  • Rohan’s chin has been retouched so that he actually has a jaw now, his missing earring has been drawn in, and a couple of lines on the kid’s arms are different:

  • The kid’s eyebrows are white here:

  • …and the snot coming out of his nose no longer has a white outline (perhaps to differentiate it from the tears?):

  • Here, have a bunch of redrawn Rohan faces! The sky is also brighter and, in the last two, there’s an extra shading near his belt, on the right side:

  • In this frame, the glass on the table no longer looks as if it has been drawn on the tablecloth, and almost every shadow has been made lighter:

  • Here Okuyasu, Josuke and Yukako’s faces have all been retouched, the background is a bit more blurry and the table in the foreground is slightly whiter:

  • In this shot, both Rohan and the kid’s faces have been retouched (when the kid gets up the two versions of his face are the same), Rohan’s right hand has been retouched in the second and third comparison, the kid now has a shadow and his chair has been drawn a bit better:

  • Here, the background is different and Rohan is actually looking at the kid:

  • No more silly movement lines:

  • Here every face has been retouched (Josuke holy hell what was wrong with yours?), Yukako’s rose and Josuke’s hair have also received some retouches:

  • In this shot they moved the kid’s head behind the book and recoloured a bit on his temple that made him look like he was balding; however, during the process the shading along the book’s spine must have gotten a bit messed up, and they probably forgot to fix that:

  • Another couple of prettier Rohan frames for your viewing pleasure:

  • …Thankfully they also retouched Heaven’s Door:

  • Well well, everyone’s eye area has been retouched here! Plus a slight retouch on Rohan’s nose as well:

  • Once again, the kid and Heaven’s Door’s eye area has been retouched, and the kid’s mouth has also been moved by a couple of pixels:

  • A slight retouch on Rohan’s face and chest-pen area (it’s subtle, but it’s there!):

  • And again as before here, plus a way more visible S U C C effect:

  • Alright, a bunch of things here: first of all, the point of view has slightly moved to the left, Rohan and the kid are now smaller, and the passing car has been moved and re-coloured:

  • Rohan’s eye area has been once again retouched; the visible part of the kid’s book has also been re-shaped to look more like a human face:

  • Here Rohan’s face has been retouched, and Heaven’s Door’s hat has a slightly less transparent white line on the inside. The shading on the kid’s thumb is also lighter:

  • And now a hilarious series of faces from the same scene:

  • MORE PINS!:

  • The kid’s aura is slightly different in shape:

  • Another couple of redrawn Rohan faces for you:

  • Once More With Feeling (and with a tiny bit of the kid’s shirt correctly recoloured to black):

  • Both faces have been retouched here:

  • The separator looks a bit less like neon:

  • Rohan! You forgot your weird-ass earrings!:

  • This was probably the most egregious thing from the TV version, because it was plot-related: the results of the last match are missing from this graph here! Thankfully, that’s been fixed in the BDs. The X in the third row has also been slightly moved:

  • Here the kid has an aura, the background is more zoomed in and the overall scene is a bit darker. I have to say this actually looks pretty cool as a pose in general!:

  • That yellowy thing in the lower right corner is now slightly luminescent. Is that what Boys II Man’s lower half looks like?:

  • Rohan’s… How’s that kind of bag called? Anyways, Rohan’s ““artist bag”” has been moved a bit away from him, so that it doesn’t look like he’s stepping on it:

  • And that very same bag is now hanging from his other arm:

  • The kid doesn’t move his hand back while doing this… thing in the BDs:
  • Again with the forgotten earrings:

  • Both faces have been retouched here:

  • Rohan’s face and earrings look better here:

  • There’s a new and more prominent wind-like effect on top of this scene here…:

  • …and here as well, plus a new face for Rohan:

  • ROHAN! THE BAG! The bg’s also slightly different:

  • And the earrings again here:

  • And again here, plus the nail holes on the polaroid:

  • The holes are different in this shot, and there’s a couple different lines on KIra senior’s cheeks as well:

  • There’s an added triangle of shading on his neck here:

  • The background has been moved around, and the peace sign on Josuke’s school uniform is also placed differently:

  • Rohan’s art bag has once again been moved to the other arm, his face has been retouched and Kira senior’s polaroid is way smaller:

  • Here’s two retouched faces for you…:

  • …one retouched eye, a corrected shoulder strap and a recoloured headband…:

  • …and those two retouched faces again:

  • Look at how happy Kira senior is in this shot! It must be because he finally has his rope back… His shading is also different:

  • As you might have seen in the previous comparison, Rohan has a slightly better face, and the kid’s been retouched somewhat as well. There’s also a slightly different shading along the bottom of the frame:

  • In this shot of the kid doing his best impression of the Rolling Stones logo, the bandana on his forehead has been moved a bit back (it’s almost invisible now):

  • And again here, plus a lot more glass (and the glass that was already there has been moved around and/or retouched):

  • Once again with those stripes on the arms! He never stops! He haunts me! Anyways, there’s that, plus a differently coloured pj’s and a different shading on the bottom of the frame. That is, the Polaroid frame. The frame inside the frame. Oh, you get it:

  • Here there’s the usual fish-eye-like effect, plus a lighter shading near the top. The kid’s hand is clutched in a fist as well:

  • “Make him more smug.” “B-But, sir, we can’t, the protocols won’t all-“ “I SAID MORE SMUG!”:

  • The kid’s face has been retouched here, and Boys II Man has also been moved a bit:

  • They went for an entirely different color scheme for this scene. I like it!:

  • Here they added the kid’s second shoulder strap (what the hell does he need two shoulder straps for anyway?), the sky is slightly lighter in colour and Heaven’s Door’s eyes have been retouched:

  • In this shot they added two pins on the kid’s left leg, his shorts are shaded better and his eyes have been moved up a bit:

  • Here they retouched the truck, the kid’s hair and his shorts as well:

  • Rohan’s looking way better in this shot (oh yeah, the background’s also more zoomed in):

  • And he is looking better here as well! Well done, David!:

  • And here… Well. Everything’s better here. The running animation is smoother and less static, the background’s brighter, and on top of that, the drawings have been completely redone:

  • Heck, even this shoe at the end looks better:

  • In this shot of the kid finally accepting Rohan as his rightful Lord and savior, the kid has been scaled down and there’s a dark shadow over Rohan’s eyes, which makes him look a bit cooler. They also added back his damn earrings! It’s not easy to see, but they’re there:

  • Once again, the polaroid comes back! This time it’s a bit thinner, and there are the usual holes on the left side:

  • Rohan’s eyes are now no longer empty and lifeless (although his soul continues to be):

  • And his face looks a bit less wonky in the BD version of this shot:

  • Again with the nail holes:

  • And in this shot, Kira daddy’s eye is a bit smaller, and… Now the stripe on his arm has been removed…? Alright, whatever you say boss:

  • The kid no longer looks as if he’s kneeling on a crate of apples, and Rohan is a bit closer to him:

  • This scene is just more zoomed out:

  • Aaand here, have a last couple of Rohan Redraws for the road:

Whew! And with that, we’re finally at the end of what turned out to be the single longest comparison in all of the DiU ones (so far!). I hope you had fun looking through this, and I’ll see you (hopefully) next week! Personally, I can’t wait to see how they redrew Shinobu in the scene where she tries to seduce Kira! Until then…

Take care!
