JoJo's Bizarre Comparisons

Diamond Is Unbreakable #17 - Rohan Kishibe's Adventure

Yo-ho-ho and all that, people! Welcome back to a brand new shining comparison. Today we’re going to take a look at Episode #17, “Rohan Kishibe’s Adventure”, where we’ll meet the hottest ghost to ever have been drawn on paper. I also hope you like looking at dogs with slashed throats, you monsters, because a good 80% of today’s comparisons will be about poor Arnold.

Without further ado, let’s get right to it!

  • For today’s entrée, may I suggest a redrawn Morioh emblem? I have no idea why, but in the TV version, it was missing its central bit. This has, of course, been fixed in the BDs:

  • Don’t talk to me or my son or my fucked up collar and tie ever again:

  • Again with the M:

  • In this shot, Koichi’s back to his smaller self, a tire on the leftmost car has been moved and the shadows under the cars are lighter:

  • Alright, with this one I have to give David pro a slap on the back of the head. One tiny slap. Not too hard. It’s for their good, really. In this scene we have one very rare Blu-ray mistake! Take a gander at the ghost truck passing in the background:
  • In this shot here, the dividing lines have been made blacker, the shot with the 本間 (Honma) nameplate has been centered better and the shots with the 小野寺 (Onodera) and 沼倉 (Numakura) nameplates have been swapped, to reflect the order in which Rohan names them:

  • This shot of Rohan pulling out his… Heaven’s Door has been made way sharper and brighter:
  • Throughout this episode, The 露 kanji on Rohan’s shirt (which, funnily enough means “dew”, can indicate the country of Russia but more importantly is the Ro in Rohan’s name) has been either forgotten or drawn weird; here’s a weird 露 now fixed:

  • Flashback Arnold has been uncensored:

  • As has been his more gruesome, more real counterpart:
  • This transition is also slightly different in the BDs (the fading to the blood on the ground happens a couple of frames earlier):
  • Have a couple more shots of this dead doggo for good measure:

  • And again here, plus a less flat shading on both Arnold and Best Girl’s legs:

  • And here we have another couple of shots of Arnold:

  • We interrupt this constant stream of dead dogs to point out that the colours in this eyecatch are a bit softer in the BD version:

  • Alright, back to the slashed neck:

  • Spot the difference! Nah, I’m just gonna tell you. A tiny bit on Rohan’s neck was slightly messed up for a handful of frames; of course, this has been fixed in the BDs, or I wouldn’t be talking about it right now and you wouldn’t be reading this sentence, or this one, or even this one:

  • Rohan forgot the 露 on his shirt here:

  • Yeah, I know, Arnold. Me too:

  • His neck is uncensored again here, and there’s also a slight vignette:

  • The lines on Reimi are also thicker here, which makes her stand out from the background more:

  • “What are you looking at? Yeah, me again”:

  • The shading on a tiny bit of Reimi’s hair has been removed in a couple of frames:

  • Rohan is no longer bald in this shot! The thick outline on his jaw has also been removed, and the details on his earring are brighter:

  • A redrawn face? That’s so thoughtful of you! You shouldn’t have!:

  • Come on, Arnold, go away! Let me work in peace:

  • Rohan’s freaky shadeless palms have been fixed:

  • Arnold again in these two shots:

  • In this split shot, Koichi’s eyes have been redrawn, Rohan’s droopy left eye has been repositioned and he no longer looks like a goth teen:

  • Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Arnold is Unbreakable:

  • In this shot, the usual 露 has been re-added to Rohan’s shirt, and the aura behind him is slightly different (if you have trouble finding the difference in the aura, look at the right of his neck):

  • One last Arnold compilation for the road:

  • And one last fixed 露, for old times’ sake:

  • Look who finally showed up! It’s Kira’s first appearance! And with him, of course, his uncensored girlfriend:

And that’s it for this episode! It was pretty uneventful, but I still had a good time; Best Girl and Best Villain can make anything enjoyable!

Alright, I’ll see you next time!

Bye!
